NANOCRYSTALPACK

(CLOSED)
Experimentation of new ecocompatible solutions (cellulose nanocrystals) for the production of food packaging materials

Starting year: 2017

Topic:

  • Paper and packaging
  • Innovation, process/product development
  • Environment
  • Sustainability

Funding: EU/Lombardy Regional Council POR FESR 2014-2020
Duration: 2017-2019

The basic objective of this project (Lombardy Region Call for R&D Cluster Projects) is to reduce the dependence on fossil resources in the flexible packaging sector. Renewable raw materials could help reach this goal allowing to maintain or even improve the properties of conventional materials to ensure compliance with protection and safety law requirements. For this purpose, Nanocrystalpack will explore the possibility to use cellulose nanocrystals (CNC), obtainable from widely available and cheap renewable raw materials, to produce coatings and functional additives for food packaging materials.
