The Paper Business Unit offers its services to paper and cardboard manufacturers and users as well as to public organizations, guaranteeing them all-round technical-scientific support with a focus on the issues of environmental sustainability, biodegradability and food safety.

Laboratories equipped with modern instrumentation allow to satisfy the analytical and consulting needs of the reference sectors and offer technical assistance based on a scientific approach to the problems of companies. As a CEPI (Confederation of European Paper Industries) laboratory, the Unit offers verification services concerning the accuracy of the instruments and procedures used by laboratories to test paper and cardboard samples.

Training courses are organized for technical personnel on issues relating to the entire paper supply chain, with a focus on the production process and the characterization and certification of the finished product according to the regulations in force.

Involvement in applied research activities for private and public organizations contributes to increasing the prestige of this Business Unit as an institutional point of reference for the paper sector acting as an interface between companies and the research environment to foster a continuous technical-scientific exchange, as well as the joint development of national and international programs of technological innovation.

Paper Unit experts participate in technical and regulatory updating activities as members of national and international technical standardization committees.

Certifications and awards

The Paper Business Unit is accredited by ACCREDIA as a laboratory operating in compliance with UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 standard for the performance of chemical, mechanical and microbiological analyses and tests on paper, cardboard, health and hygiene articles and products intended for contact with food.

Paper Unit

It is committed to meeting the different needs of the paper industry and users, including the public administration, guaranteeing full support on technical-scientific matters with a focus on the issues of environmental sustainability, biodegradability and food safety.

Fuels Unit

An institutional reference point for the evaluation and control of the characteristics of fuels, its expertise extends to all the issues concerning energy, environmental and safety performance related to fossil fuels and alternative energy sources.

Oils and Fats Unit

Thanks to the strong technical and scientific competence acquired over the years, it supports and promotes the technical progress of companies belonging to the sectors of fatty substances and derivatives, mineral oils and lubricants, detergents and surfactants, paints and varnishes as well as cosmetic products and personal hygiene.

Silk Unit

A research laboratory serving the textile-fashion sector, highly experienced in the field of silk technologies. Its primary mission is to provide support to and co-operate with companies in scientific research and technological innovation projects in order to enhance the competitiveness of the Italian textile industry.

Innovation services and projects

Assists and offers services to companies operating in various sectors often acting as a link between them and the technical areas. It is committed to fostering and stimulating innovation by providing information services and technical assistance on the issues of EU legislation and funding. Its activity includes the provision of supporting services for transnational technology transfer and the promotion of the involvement of local companies in UE research and development projects.

It is a centre of the Enterprise Europe Network and an APRE (Agency for the Promotion of European Research) office for Lombardy's enterprises.
